Applying for a position with the Long Beach Township Police Department
Anyone interested in obtaining an application for employment must first write a letter to Lieutenant Anthony Deely. It is helpful to include a current resume with your letter. Additionally, you should indicate what position within the department you are interested in.
Long Beach Township is governed by the New Jersey Department of Personnel. In order to be considered for full time employment you must first take the DOP Police Test. You can obtain additional information on the testing procedure by contacting the Exams Information section of the New Jersey Departmental of Personnel at (609) 292-8668 or by visiting their web site at http://www.state.nj.us/personnel.
Full Time Positions
Long Beach Township also maintains residency preference for full time employees as defined by local ordinance. You must be a resident of Long Beach Township at the time of application for your Department of Personnel Police Test. You must also be a resident of Long Beach Township at the time of your application and through the hiring process including your appointment, to receive residency preference.
Seasonal Positions
The residency preference does not apply to seasonal employees. Long Beach Township employs approximately fifteen Special Law Enforcement Officers each summer. Candidate must be 18 years old and have a HS Diploma or GED prior to attending a Class I Academy - therefore prior to June 1 or the year they are applying for a position. Applications for seasonal work are not mailed but must be picked up by the applicant. Appointments to pick up applications will be made in December. The seasonal hiring process begins in January with successful candidates conditionally offered employment in late April. If you are interested in a seasonal position you must submit a letter to Lieutenant Anthony Deely explaining your interest by December 30th, 2012. Letters will not be accepted after the aforementioned date.
